Fairies

Can vary their appearance with their illusion abilities, but their true form seems to be a roughly humanoid figure roughly 6” tall with wings. They use illusion and charm magic. An individual that has been touched by fairies seems to more readily attract them in the future. The method they use to communicate is debated, although they often make high pitched noises, and seem to laugh with what sounds like a childish giggle.

While sometimes fairies can be found individually, they are more often found in groupings called troops. These troops can vary from approximately a dozen up to many dozen individuals. Different troops of fairies may have slightly different spells, or at least different proclivities to use them. Fairies from the same troop have the ability to combine their magic to increase its power. Two (a dyad) or three (a triad) fairies can cast as a single user. A single fairy has 200 FP in magic. The dyad is the equivalent of a 400 FP mage and can cast spells up to Base 8, and a triad a 600 FP mage casting spells up to Base 12, including saves and hit percentages. This is not ritual magic and uses the normal casting time. Multiple dyads and triads can use ritual magic, although it is not seen very often. A troop is capable of very intricate magic using the different groupings to cast complimentary spells. How they coordinate this is not known.

Mage equivalent stats:

  • Single: 20 RAD points, 15 BSPP, 100 SP, 11 Regen, 4 MBSP, +10% Save, 38% to hit.
  • Dyad: 40 RAD points, 47 BSPP, 400 SP, 44 Regen, 8 MBSP, +2% Save, 50% to hit.
  • Triad: 60 RAD points, 92 BSPP, 900 SP, 100 Regen, 12 MBSP, -6% Save, 61% to hit.

Common individual spells: Haunting Sounds 1, Audible Glamer 2, Change Appearance 2, Illusion I 2, Illusion II 4, Invisibility 4.

Common dyad/triad spells: Charm Person 2, Illusion III 6, Hallucinatory Terrain 8, Illusion IV 8, Illusion V 10, Programmed Illusion 12, Veil 12.

Most troops seem to dwell in a specific area, although nomadic troops have been identified. They can sometimes be found dancing and eating with humanoids (they generally don’t like goblinoids), using real and illusionary food, usually deep in the woods. They of course don’t need to eat, so the origin of this ritual is debated. If angered or annoyed they can be persistent foes and have great patience.

There are some very powerful fairies, although it is not known whether they are species champions (very rare if true), a difference caste, or a completely different species. They generally seem to be treated reverently by the other fairies.
