The Order of the Basenji serve the Crown (i.e. King and/or Queen) of the Sylvenian Confederacy. They are the covert operations arm of the Crown, serving for the benefit of the Confederacy. If a new king or queen attains the throne they serve the new Crown. All who join the Order give up their old name and House allegiance and are said to serve for life. They are given the names of various predators: Falcon, Hound, Red Hawk, Grey Wolf, etc. They are highly proficient in covert operations including intelligence, counter-intelligence, sabotage, and assassinations.

The Order is named after the ancient hunting dog, the Basenji, also called the “silent dog”. They sometimes will leave a hound's head sign to send a message, and also have been known to give allies or those who have earned their favor a gold coin bearing a Basenji head.
