Vampires are undead humanoids, usually at the high end of their particular race in things such as strength, intelligence, etc. They have an extremely high constitution. They can vary greatly in powers, and are a champion species and tend to get stronger as they get older. Many use magic, although some wield weapons as well. Their bite drains blood (and life), and some killed this way will become vampire spawns.

Vampires regenerate except for magic damage from the physical sphere and do not like direct sunlight. They can also turn into a mist at will. Damage to their head or chest to zero HP prevents them from turning into a mist. To prevent them from healing or regenerating in this state an object is driven into the head or chest. While metal or other objects will work, living objects like a wooden stake tend to work best. A vampire can be completely destroyed only by physical magic or being denied a blood supply/life force. Vampires in a “staked” condition have been known to survive for a long time, especially if powerful.

New vampires are created by existing ones, by the draining of blood, usually over time. Most victims drained will either die or become vampire spawn, but occasionally a full vampire will result. This is a rare event and the reasons for it are not understood.

Vampires live in “nests”. A nest will usually consist of one vampire, their attendant vampire spawn, and any other servants or minions.
